About John: Licensed as G3WGV since 1967 and holding the Advanced UK licence plus US American Extra class licence. Founder member of FSDXA and deputy team leader for the 9M0C, D68C and 3B9C DXpeditions. Past committee member and President of the First Class CW Operators' Club. Past Chairman of CDXC and of Reading and District Amateur Radio Club. Founder and President of the Summits on the Air award programme. Keeper for the GB3WES 5MHz propagation beacon.
Active mainly on CW, in contests, DXing and when DXpeditioning, with over 340 DXCC Entities worked on CW. Also active on various data modes and on VHF.
Responsible for designing and developing the FSDXA StarSoftware DXpedition management project, which will be used at T32C.
Other interests include building and flying small aeroplanes, instructing Air Cadets, mountaineering, computer programming, classical music and real ale.
Prior to taking early retirement in 2001 and moving to Cumbria, John was Head of Business Development for a UK public telecommunications operator.
