About Fred:
Licenced in 1964. I was very active in the UK in the 60s & 70s especially as Britain's most northerly ham located on the island of Unst in the Shetland Islands as GM3SVK and worked over 200 countries for the DXCC in 2 years. I have many awards for winning phone and CW contests and hold over 50 awards for IOTA, DXCC, WAZ, WAE, WAS, WDR, WAB, OHA etc etc.
I am a keen CW operator and was a member of the FOC (First Class CW Operators Club) back in the 60s having been sponsored by members in 5 continents. I was also a member of the TOPS CW Club. Very keen on 160m operation and have worked over 90 countries with a few firsts. I liked to go on DXpeditions around the UK putting UK counties on the air and could be heard in many contests from various UK countries such as GC3SVK, GW3SVK, GD3SVK and GI3SVK. I led a 3-man team on a DXpedition to Tunisia as 3V8DX back in 1981 thanks to the help and advice from Vince Thompson K4VT and others. I am the QSL manager for that operation. I was also a member of RAFARS until fairly recently.
On leaving the RAF I worked for a radio telephone company before joining British Gas as their Essex Communications Officer. I retired in 1993 and currently run my own TV and Video production company filming weddings, parties and corporate promotions for which I have several awards. I am currently heard on Echolink and CQ100) and I have recently purchased a Yaesu FT857 which just gives a maximum power of 100 watts to a 20M dipole and wire antennas for the other bands.
I am currently married (XYL Diane) with a 14 year old daughter, Georgina. I also have a son and daughter. from a previous relationship.
